English Studies at Lalan College has a long and meritorious tradition, enriched by scholar students and academicians. English Department has the distinction of being in touch with every single student of the college through a variety of course and programme options. General English is a common subject for all students in both the disciplines. English as a Core Elective (Specialization in English), Open Elective (Subsidiary/Minor English) and as an Allied subject is offered to Bachelor of Arts students. Additionally, one can also opt for Functional English as a vocational course and as UGC approved Carreer-oriented Course. Literary studies in English has distinct advantages in the age we live in. It not only improves one's reading critical thinking skills, but also widens one's worldview and EQ. Pragmatically, English helps one pursue several career options – from the traditional ones such as education and teaching jobs to the modernday journalism, content writing, translation, hospitality and tourism, communication specialist, copy writing and editing and material developer.
